Janet's Kitchen Mural

Shawn Bullen, who grew up in Chicago, painted this mural on the alley side of Janet's Kitchen in 2019. He came to Rensselaer with no firm idea of what to paint, but talked to people and explored the town. All the elements of the painting are things he saw while he was here. The gold fish was in the reflecting pond at Saint Joseph's College. The turtle, rabbit, and the duck were figurines in the window of Janet's Kitchen. The cat was the cat of the people he stayed with while in Rensselaer. The ice-cream cone was a cone he bought at Busy Bee. Before the fire this mural was hard to view as a whole because the alley was so narrow.
