Virtual Tour of Weston Cemetery

Every cemetery is full of stories, some uplifting, some tragic, some exciting, some boring. These pages will lead you through Weston Cemetery, looking at a few of the stories it contains.

Weston Cemetery is maintained by the City of Rensselaer. It has over 7000 burials, more burials than the City has residents. It lies on what was the western edge of the City, on the north bank of the Iroquois River. It can be a busy place as many local residents walk its roads for exercise.

As in most cemeteries, the graves in Weston Cemetery have addresses. The whole is divided into sections that are designated by letters, the sections are divided into lots that are designated by numbers, and the lots into spaces. (In Sections E, D and G, some of the sections are divided into blocks that are then divided into lots.) The maps below show the section numbers of the older parts of the Cemetery, those that lie south of Bunkum Road. The dark red, blue, and green dots show the location of graves that are pictured in the following pages and the paler dots show the location of other graves mentioned. The first map shows graves from the next four pages.

This second map shws the graves mentioned in the final three pages.

The seven pages that follow embrace the power of linking. Almost very person mentioned is linked to another website that has more information about him or her. Pages on findagrave.com are frequently linked because findagrave has an almost complete listing of burials in Weston Cemetery and most of its pages have pictures of graves and their locations and many also have links to relatives and information about the lives of the deceased. In finding people to include in the following pages, Vintage Views, a publication of the Jasper County Historical Society, has been invaluable.

At the bottom of each page is a link that will take you to a comment page where you can read what others have added or you can make your own additions and corrections that might be of interest to others.
