Balboat (Plain, Bold)

(available at myfonts.com and fonts.com)

I constructed a number of calligraphic faces using the "Expand Strokes" feature in Fontographer. (I am giving away secrets here.) Instead of constructing the entire path of the letter, one constructs a line which a calligraphic pen will follow. Then one sets the size and angle of the pen, and from that line a calligraphic font appears. Of course, the quality of the end product depends on the quality of the original line--garbage in, garbage out.

Balboat is rather plain, with a very small x-height. Originally constructed for Font Pro Vol 2, it was completed too late to be included in the main collection, but was part of the main group on Font Pro 3.
