(currently retired)

A number of the typefaces on the No-Hype Type CD have had an encounter with Font-O-Matic, a font distortion program that was briefly sold by Altsys. (I believe it is not longer published, but may be wrong about that. Only a MS-Windows version was ever marketed.) One of the distortions this program did was put spikes on the surfaces of letters. I do not know how useful this particular effect is, and it may be that this CD has more spiked fonts than anyone will ever need. (I hope so.) I have never had a need for a spiked font, but they were fun (and easy) to do. The wave effect of Font-O-Matic produced effects that could be very similar to some of the short spike distortions.

(I found that the PostScript versions of the spiked faces are more reliable than the TrueType versions. In converting from the PostScript to the TrueType, Fontographer introduced some unwanted distortions on several letters that I have not been able to get rid of.)

Though the spiked effect seemed to work best on sans-serif faces, I liked the results I got with the bizarre font CourtJester. The result is called CourtJesterFrizzy.
